Default Ask before you take

I'm annoyed that money was taken out of my account for subsciptions and I wasn't even asked!.
Give me my money back!
I rarely use this page anyway!

I have the same problem and i've just emailed my request and although he's tired of getting emails about refunds he can fix it easily with:
1) A minor change in the text of the messages on the webpage and PayPal receipts.
2) The drop down menu under donations says nothing about recurring.
3) A simple heads up in advance and I don't mean like a few days!
4) In the heads up message and in all messages, let us know that we are subscribing "forever" until we cancel it via PayPal! We know its for 6 months but not beyond and that's very deceptive but easily fixed.
I too signed on knowing that I was subscribing for 6 months no big deal and now I'm out of work and I find out it's about to expire and I hardly visit here either since I've had too many problems with download issues so I came back to check in after eh like 3-5 months of inactivity. I don't recall having a choice in 6 months recurring or just a one time payment. I'd better get my refund and if not PayPal will know the real and whole story I've got documents and screenshots. It's deceptive and not clear, that's all. I mean hey just change your subscription methods and we'll be much happier! I'm not pissed yet since I'll wait and see if I get my refund first. What if I do? I'll never come back, and if I don't? I'm not too pissed right now since I'm giving them a chance but if not i will be!
Here's a pic from a better way to get your donations:

Well, I haven't heard a thing so I guess I'll start with PayPal. He or she will probably be pissed but hey so am I and I'm not alone!
When you sign up as a donator you subscribe for 6 months at $19.99 and in their very own drop down menu there's only ONE choice! Not 2 like one time for 6 months and a recurring one for EVERY additional 6 months thereafter!
Check it out:
[IMG][/IMG]
Here's an excerpt from my email requesting a refund:
Your letter sates and I quote: "Dear unclemac, Your access to the paid subscription "KH Downloads Server Donation" is about to expire." There's no date it just says "about" not when...but still I wasn't expecting to be billed without any notice from you in advance. I don't think I would've re-subscribed and it's still not in you drop down menu to have recurring payments on or off or whatever....since I never authorized this withdrawal! I don't see on your site that I "chose" a recurring subscription there was only 1 choice! Your email sates and I quote: "If you have selected a recurring subscription you will be automatically billed for the renewal, else to renew this subscription you must visit http://www.ffdownloads.com/payments.php If you do not extend your subscription, access will be removed." I had no choice, just 6 months and at the time I said yes but NOWHERE does it say that this it a recurring subscription! This is extremely deceptive! Why? Hmm, 6 months ago I sighed up but IF I HAD A CHOICE I KNOW I WOULD'NT HAVE SIGNED UP FOR A RECURRING SUBSCRIPTION! But guess what? There is NO CHOICE! Plus, in the "selection mode of 1 actual choice listed as you can see above, it doesn't tell you it's a recurring subscription.
That's just plain wrong in my book!

I just got an unauthorized charge. When I decided to donate, I noticed it was also one choice and it didnt have a "recurring" next to it so I expected to be only charged once and nothing more. Please refund my 19.99 thank you

Wow! Sorry it was too late! Man the Admin/owner here needs to read, listen and fix the problem! Just a simple change to a few things would've prevented him/her posting the Sticky of how to unsubscribe! The letter says that it was about to expire and if I chose to have recurring which everyone is finding out IS IMPOSSIBLE after the fact pisses everyone off because that's STEALING!!

When you select the payment method it says right there that its a subscription.

When you proceed to the paypal page, it says right there
"Anime Downloads Server Donation Subscription"

The TERMS of the subscription are written out as:
"$19.99 USD for each 6 months"

After that, you have to login, and once you do that, the message is right there.
"$19.99 USD for each 6 months"

After that you get an email from paypal, which tells you have made a subscription and you've signed up to pay for $19.99 USD for each 6 months.

How can it be an "unauthorized" charge if you just authorized paypal to charge you every 6 months??

Canceling a subscription is increadiably simple, but in case you couldn't figure it out, I've even got a thread up to explain the process, which includes such intricate details, as "logging in" and "clicking the cancel button". You can cancel the subscription immediately, right after paying.

To put it simply, there is no excuse. If you didn't cancel in time, its your own fault.

Oh oh oh, and here's another side of the coin. People who ask for refunds usually donate, download stuff, and then ask for a refund so they can get a free ride. This is why there are no refunds.

Default Deception....
When you select the payment method it says right there that its a subscription.
The problem with this to me and everyone else is deception. Why? You're correct in the the 1st PayPal message it states the terms however in the followup email it does not. This is what it says:
"Dear unclemac,

Your access to the paid subscription "KH Downloads Server Donation" is about to expire.

If you have selected a recurring subscription you will be automatically billed for the renewal, else to renew this subscription you must visit http://www.ffdownloads.com/payments.php

If you do not extend your subscription, access will be removed.

All the best,
Download Forums"
How can you 'CHOSE'? The only choice is Paypal and that's the whole deception point I'm making. In the wording of the follow up email it SHOULD RESTATE THE ORIGINAL TERMS as a simple courtesy! Why not? So you can get more money in a deceptive way, it's gotta be. The way it's written is implying that you chose to have a recurring subscription and to most, if not all of us, that should be with your website NOT PayPal and in the drop down "donation" menu. It DOES NOT STATE IT'S RECURRING OR THAT YOU HAVE A CHOICE! It should at the very least be reworded to include that when you signup on YOUR site! Then we would be here complaining and bitcin'! Simple as that!
Why do I keep saying deception? 6 months have passed and we've simply forgotten what the original terms are. Yeah you can blame it on us but your methods need to be altered and modified. We lost out and won't donate again but please consider the new guys and gals.
If I could've not chosen, BEFORE I donated, to have a recurring subscription then I probably wouldn't have gave you an additional 6 months that day. I may have donated at a later date since my original time had expired when I logged back in, but now? No Way!!

You little prick.

Absolutely NO WHERE does it state that the fee will be recurring AFTER the 6-months are done, either on this website OR in the email that is sent out.

You fucking cheated, and in essence STOLE my and ALL of these other member's money. PLUS because of this, you flipping overdrafted my account!

REFUND my money, or I'll have my lawyer on your ass so fast, you won't know what fucking HIT you!

Do you people know what a subscription is? When you subscribe (to pay (money) as a contribution (to a charity, for a magazine, etc.) at regular intervals) to something, you are responsible for stopping it. When you subscribe to a newspaper or magazine, when the paid time period is up, they charge you again for the next pay period unless you cancel the services.

And there is no need to be a potty mouth SakuBloss.

I'd have to disagree and it's a simple reason. For example when I subscribe to a magazine for a year, I pay their asking price in advance and I receive my one years worth of them, then it runs out after I get my last issue for the time I prepaid for. UNLESS I VOLUNTARILY send another payment for a year. The subscription expires in 12 months and I get no more issues unless I renew they don't draft my checking account or charge my card automatically.
I see your point but I hope you see ours. Just change a few things and all will be peaceful from now on. Your terms are NOT clear and you need to put yourself into our shoes. People forget and so did I but at the same time the followup email led me to believe I had a choice to have recurring withdrawals which I immediately knew I'd never sign up for that and it's NOT listed or mentioned anywhere using that word "recurring".
Can you see the point of the whole mess?! Fix it and we can all relax!
