i think that it's one of those songs that comes up every so often and changes the way songs are and raises the bar to another level of excellence that new & old artists must reach.
i personally thought that this was one of her finest pieces of music, and not only that but she beat everyone that came out with a new song when "Umbrella" was aired.
people may not like the song because of the music or how she echoes ella in umbrella, but since when is that the point of a song. last time i checked, music and beat listening was techno, and i doubt that "Umbrella" is a techno song. seriously, pay attention to the words, especially in the chorus...they have so much to say.

There's totally no subtext to Umbrella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh.

But I like it. idk why. As long as fangirls don't start singing it. It is not meant to be sung, even in 'who-can-sing-the-worst' karaoke contests.

I really don't like how she pronounces umbrella like "umb-er-ella"

Exactly!

I'll admit, I didn't really like the song at first much at all and the "ella ella ella" bit does grate on one's nerves after a while, but on the whole it's a good song, easy to pick up and very good music to dance to.
