Ermm Sonic is clearly the best here. Mario games are fun but as an overall character, Sonic is just badass beyond belief, despite the fact that almost all the recent Sonic games have been horrible.

This is just the opinion of someone who's still living in the 90s

Haha just reading this thread made me think of a game I played recently on the Wii - Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games! It's true, the game really exists! You get to play as either Mario characters, Sonic characters ot even use your own Mii and compete in "real" Olympic game events. And you can imagine that with the Wii, you have to do weird things using the remote and accessories!

So really, if you want a "fair" answer to your question, jst play the game using Mario and Sonic and see who beats who!

I would say both... however, the time in which the franchises were truly competitive with one another was during the heyday of the golden 16-bit era. That's when the games by Sega starring Sonic were quality pieces of software able to be favorably compared to Nintendo's flagship franchise. Both are great characters, although I still laugh at the prospect of "Blast Processing".
