Default Good games for busy people

Do you know any games that would be good choices for anyone who doesn't have a lot of time to spend gaming?

I find that the busier I get (especially during the school year), I don't really have time to spend even an hour just playing a game, so that makes it really hard to get into long and complex games. So I'm wondering what games there are that I could pick up for like half an hour between when I get home from school and have to run off again for some rehearsal or whatever. Maybe something with short levels, or no levels but not so complex that if you don't play it for a long time, you're not completely lost when you pick it up again.

I think FPS's would be good for that, especially if you play online. You can just hop on for however long and kill stuff with no worry of stopping in the middle of something. Anything else?

Let's see... Thief (as long as you don't get hooked), Portal, and stuff like DDR and Guitar Hero.

Final Fantasies aren't that bad, but depending on the frequency of your game playing, you may get lost in the story...

For PC, there's the forementioned CounterStrike, which is good. You could stick with the Orange Box stuff. Half-Life is good. Single player, you can save anywhere and anytime. Multi-player, online fragfests!

Guitar Hero does it for me, but you could also go for games like Oblivion or Killzone... with of course as ground rules that 1. you don't forget the story and 2. you don't get caught up in them

Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan is good if you have a DS. Each song is only about three minutes long and it autosaves between levels, so you won't miss much.

The "Do your work" game.

No, just kidding.

Portal is good, Counter-strike, TF2.

If you have acces to a computer, I might suggest text based online games, some cool ones are:
stars empire
forumwarz
torncity

You'll only have to spend like 1 hour everyday, and if you have more time then I suggest pox nora as well, or maybe Silent Hill
