You have to realize that for it's time Halo was technological marvel, great graphics and superb game play made this game a must buy. This is when the hype started, because Halo was such a superbly well done game for it's time Halo 2 must have been about two times better than one right? Well, other games came and went, some surpassing Halo 2, but still, people had very high hopes for it. Microsoft used every ounce of this hype to promote Halo 2, when it was released, Halo 2 was purely driven by hype. The story was the typical Sci-fi story game, simply Humans fighting Aliens, simple, yet effective. The ending really dropped jaws, and not in the good way. The multiplayer was where the strength's were, with Xbox Live players could play anyone, anytime. This was an amazingly awesome feature, even when the PC has had this feature for years. Halo 2 was the game that anyone could pick up, the hardcore gamers, or the laid back gamers. This is why the hype for Halo 3 is so high, with Halo's singleplayer and Halo 2's multiplayer, combining those two things would be wonderful, don't you think?
This is why people who don't own an Xbox 360 say it's pure hype, the gamers that own a PS3 or a Wii simply say that their console is the best, is purely saying that because they want to make themselves feel better for purchasing that console. It helps reassure their purchase was the best one. the game will be a great game, it may not be incredible, but it will still be a fun experience for anyone to pick up and play.

Guys! Guys! I am an expert at Halo and I know why you guys have these opinions! First of all:

1. Halo 1 is alot better, especialy on the PC, so try that before you judge. Second;
2. Halo 2 campaign is not fun because it's campaign is extremely short and it's made specificly online.
3. Halo 3 will be base on Halo: Custom Edition (Directers Suggestion). So it is alot more fun then the other games in the series.

I'm not saying to have fun with Halo, go online, but the reality and sense of exploration makes it a top priority. Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Halo is the most over-hyped game ever. PC FPS games are so much better, and actually have online multiplayer without you paying for it. The only reason Halo became such a success is because, like you said, the Xbox had (and still has, now that I think about it, 'cept maybe Oblivion and Bioshock) nothing better, and the multiplayer was the best of anything except Super Smash Bros. Melee at the time.

I'm betting Halo 3 is gonna suck compared to what people are saying about it.

INCORRECT!!! The truth is that people are tring to point out the bad stuff . It is based on Halo: Custom Edition. If you have Halo PC, look it up, download it, add maps, and you will have so much fun! There has been alot of comments about how long the campaign might be: It might get alot bigger! Just don't underestimate something that hasn't came out yet!

Halo was never meant to beat ANY PC FPS titles, it was to create a great experience for consoles, seriously, please look up your facts. Super Smash Bros. Melee doesn't have online multiplayer. Halo was a success because the fans loved it, the game's popularity can be built purely on hype (*Ahem* Killzone.). Please don't compare Xbox games to PC.

I definitely think it's over-rated, but whatever. You can make that argument about many series. I've never really played the games that much, but it seems to me most of the popularity comes off the multiplayer, not the single player story. For me I will always like the story over multiplayer unless the game was made more towards multi than single player, such as Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS.
