People like to chalk it up as innovative. It didn't do anything that other shooters weren't already doing, but I think that it did do a lot of them better, at least in the context of the console world. While I could get into Goldeneye after getting used to the controls, Halo's control scheme was intuitive and easy to use. I'd love to play Goldeneye or Perfect Dark with a Halo control setup.
I enjoyed the first, despite the re-run level design. The second...I was disappointed with. The campaign should have been better. When I get a 360, I'm sure I'll get Halo 3, but it's not something I'm just dying to play. As far as I'm concerned, Bungie's like EA.
