Band/Song Recommendations.
Had a quick scan of the first page and couldn't see it, too lazy to search the second so pardon me if there's one on that page.
Anyway, let's get to recommending.
Testament - Great band, thrash metal and have some awesome beatdowns at times. Some pretty good solo's and good lyrics. Try downloading 'Low', awesome song.
Keane - Soft, but pretty fucking good. My brother downloaded the album a couple of weeks ago and I've been listening to it quite a few times the past week. Good band, only two instruments played, but at times it sounds like a hell of a lot more.
Down - Nice 'stoner rock' band. Jimmy Bower on drums, Anselmo singing, Todd Strange on bass and Pepper Keenan on guitar. Try 'Stone the Crow', cracking song.
I'll post more later.

The Velvet Underground
I'm tired of meating people who have never heard of them. They're an experimental rock band from the 60s, and one of the most influential bands of all time, directly influencing the development of punk. The few people who do know about them that aren't idiots associate them with feedback. A girl in my theater class called them garage rock and I about back handed her. The few people who know about them know about the John Cale era (their first two albums), but they don't know about the time when they mellowed out (Self-titled third album),or when Lou signed them to a new record company who wanted them to write pop songs. Lou did, and he did without losing sight of his original intentions for the band. After that the group broke up, (according to AMG, the bassist took over and put out a really lousy album, but I've never heard about it anywhere else) and people still have little idea of the vast influence of not only the VU as a band, but Lou Reed and John Cale as solo artists. In other words, one of the greatest bands ever.
Song Highlights: Heroin, All Tomorrow's Parties, Sister Ray, White Light / White Heat, Candy Says, Pale Blue Eyes, Rock and Roll, Sweat Jane
The Kinks
Another incredibly influential band, popular in the mid sixties and late seventies. However, for a long while they were banned from the US for unkown reasons, and we missed their prime. We missed The Village Green Preservation Society, Face to Face, Kinkdom and King Arthur. We got to see a few good singles in the mid sixties and the last few good albums in the early seventies. And now almost no one knows them, and if they do, they know "Lola" or the Van Halen version of "You Really Got Me". Our generation is totally clueless.
Song Highlights: You Really Got Me, Sunny Afternoon, Village Green, Wicked Annabella, King Arthur, Lola

Testament is indeed a great band.
Slayer: Yep, if you don't know who these guys, then you need to lift your head out of the sand. I recommend the song "Angel of Death" to the Slayer virgin.
Exodus: An underrated thrash band, they were originally fronted by the late Paul Baloff. Steve Souza took over and the rest is history. Check out "The Toxic Waltz" for a thrashin' good time.
Possessed: This was the first death metal band. While I'd like to recommend the entire Seven Churches album, that's against the rules. So I'll recommend "The Exorcist." But by all means, get the whole CD.
Celtic Frost: Back in the day, this was great metal. Check out the song "Circle of the Tyrants" and prepare to be blown away.
Kreator: This is great German thrash metal. The song "Coma of Souls" is sure to rip you a couple of new assholes.
Venom: They're the namesake of my ID. So please, listen to "Welcome to Hell" and make me proud.
Megadeth: This is another one of those bands that if you don't know them, climb out from under that rock! Listen to "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" immediately!
S.O.D.: Hey kids! It's the Stormtroopers of Death! Bust your ear drums to the song "Speak English or Die" before they come for you.
Grave Digger: More German metal. "Valhalla" should be at the top of your listening list.
Iced Earth: Last, but not least, I shall mention my favorite band. Listen to "Greenface" and thank the Navy SEALS that they were the inspiration for this incredible song.

While Slayer is a great band, Angle of Death is one of the shittiest songs ever. Try Seasons in the Abyss or Bloodline.

Angel of Death happens to be one of the best Slayer songs ever recorded. I would have recommended "Hell Awaits" or "Dead Skin Mask" if I wanted to recommend something of lesser quality. "Seasons in the Abyss" is good, but I don't like "Bloodline."

I recommend "Raining Blood" for Slayer neophytes.
Groups I can agree with: The Velvet Underground, the Kinks, Slayer, and King Crimson. "21st Century Schizoid Man" is one of the most amazing musical performances I have ever heard.
Recommendations I have to add: I'd have to recommend Dream Theater ("A Change of Seasons" is simply amazing), Yes ("And You and I" is my favourite song ever), and early Genesis (i.e. Peter Gabriel era, start with "Supper's Ready" as it happens to be one of the best album side-length tracks ever) for now.
Also, Led Zeppelin's "Bring It On Home" and "Achilles Last Stand" are essential additions to any musical library. Everyone knows Zeppelin, but far too few people have heard these two exquisite tracks.
