I think a good test for which division a character belongs in would be something like, "How quickly can this character definitively end a fight (ie: kill their opponent)?"

People of ridiculous power levels, eg: Sephiroth, who can kill people swiftly, or a maxed DBZ character, who commonly tend to nuke planets. These are obviously megaton class characters.

Heavyweight is something like the shounen heroes who basically bash up against their enemy until they prevail, they pretty much just draw on lots of power until they win. Dealing with a previous example, Dante would go here, because he has multiple levels of power, and can keep ramping it up until he wins.

The Lightweight class will be characters who must fight with skill and cunning, rather than butting heads with their foe like a testosterone drenched football player. To draw on an example from the previous tournament, Sakura, from Cardcaptors, would be a lightweight, not because of her size, but because her powers are based around combining cards and outwitting her opponent.

In my opinion, Megaton will come down to who is a more popular character, as all its participants will probably be able to blow the crap out of whatever opposed them in their original incarnation. Heavyweight will be decided by who has displayed the most powerful move most recently (if characters from ongoing series are used). Lightweight will probably be the most interesting, as it the victory of your favored character will ride upon how well you can present their skills in a debate forum.

There's my three cents. (that's right, my thoughts are worth more than yours, it's one higher!)

this forum sucks because of the immature idiots that freely post BS behind the protective wall of anonymity.

the download site itself has worth

the tier system my friend mentioned works best so far
that way you have all the characters already ranked and organized and all you have to really do is set up the brackets

Screw 3 cents, my thoughts run a buck a piece plus tax.

Okay I Got that this thread is a preparation For the next tournament...

But i have some questions about the tournament itself,

Is it open to everyone?

The characters need to be Created by someone else?
(like, can I create my character and enter the tournament?)

When is going to be the next tournament?

Sorry to ask this here but this was the only place where I would get my answers...

Voting is open to everyone. The characters will be picked by Koru-Chan. It should be sometime soon. Summer Tournament Announcements

I think it'd be a hell of allot easier to decide how the divisions are limited, and what divisions there are, after the competitors are decided.

Then its much easier to separate them into tiers, and create addition tiers if needed. If you group characters of like strength, the tiers will for themselves.

I think another kind of grouping which can be used is
- unarmed division
- melee weapon division
- projectile weapon division
- magic division
- free for all division

the name of the divisions pretty much explain what it is,
while free for all division are pretty much like the megaton division,
it would consists of characters that have more than one fighting type.
i.e. : the ninjas from Naruto series would fall in to this category, cuz they use unarmed, projectiles, some used swords, and also ninjutsus..

Just a hundred rupiah from me..
it really isn't much..
haha..

heavy weight division imho should be character with "super" powers or "magic" at their disposal

light weights should be characters with normal human qualities

and yah megaton makes since the way it is

I have made a small tournament in the past and so, I know the intital steps are the hardest.

The method I used was to compile a collection of characters about 2 times the amount I would plan on using for freedom of choice. Then a placed numbers between 1 through 10. 1 being the weakest and 10 being the strongest. I found the one character i thought was the weakest and one i thought was the strongest as a guide for ranking the rest.

After that i took all of say rank 1 through 4 as the lowest tourney division. 5 through 7 was the next division and 8 through 10 the last one. Then i just narrowed down to the amount and the specific characters i decided to use.

This method took me a while but, i had some good results. I look forward to seeing the tournament.

I agree with vaires, partly because the games i play are in the past kinda and people cant 'nuke planets' and stuff. each character has preset skills and weapon type(ie. sword, bow, staff) , even though you can change the armor and weapon appearance (ie moonlight set and moonlight sword or trooper set and sword).
