Exclamation Division Planning - READ FIRST POST - 04-30-2008, 04:15 PM

Please make sure to read this whole post so I don't delete yours.

This thread is for the discussion of the divisions that will be used in the upcoming tournament. Quite honestly, this confused me to the point where I feel some input from all of you is needed.

There will be the following divisions:
Lightweight Division
Heavyweight Division
Megaton Division

Megaton Division is quite easy to describe. The kinds of things you will see in this category are the Kyuubi from Naruto, Bahamut from the FF series, and any other kind of large creature of epic proportions that just doesn't belong in the human category.

Lightweight and Heavyweight are where it gets tricky. What should the standards be for these two divisions? What kind of characters do you believe fit in them? What kind of powers limit you to the lower or raise you to the higher?

I want some good posts about what you think about this. If you don't know, don't post. Don't just post a few character names, I need reasons why.

If you post one-liners, spam, unhelpfully vague remarks, and overall just don't put thought into helping out this tournament, then your post WILL BE DELETED.

Well since we can't use the UFC standards by weight size, then it should be broken up into special power and weapon usage.

For instant, opponents using only weapons such as Katanas, Swords, ect. that have no special powers should be characterize as Lightweight division.

Those who need no weapons and who has powers such as Ki blasts, elemental powers, etc. should be categorized in the Heavyweight division. For example: Characters from Dragonball Z (Goku. Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten, Krillen, Piccolo).

But then you have to choose what group characters such as Dante (Devil May Cry) would fit into. He uses both weapons as well as special powers he gets from being a half-demon. If he's chosen to be considered a heavyweight, then he wouldn't be able to use weapons at all and visa versa.

That's my two cents worth. ^_^

Hmm... what if I rename them to Weapon Division, Elite Division, and Megaton Division? Weapon Division is for those with no magical abilities, Elite is for people with Magical or Magical and Weapon abilities, and Megaton stays where it is.

The only reason I say that is that there are very few energy-only users. The DBZ people have their fists and feet, which might as well be weapons with all the power in their limbs. And some DBZ characters use swords. (Trunks for instance).

While it's not uncommon for anime people to have weapons only and no magic ability (Kenshin for instance), I have found very few with magic only.

Dunno.

Now that sounds like a plan to me!

a heavyweight and lightweight?
probably you have already managed to establish that lightweight is probably free plotline with light story while heavywight is probably free plotline with deep story... probably I say if those are how it stands I'd say probably it would wind up with basic rules like no spam, no god mode, no unlimited resources, and no favorism... probably it would be harder for the person who started the story to role play in their own rpg if they make them heavy weight or light weight because they've got more things to mess with like how the people act and towns and so on and so forth... it probably would wind up being only those who have good creativity and really like to make up stories would probably do heavyweight or lightweight...

What are you talking about? This is about planning the divisions of the next tournament. This is not the planning stage of some story!

Yeah... you need to read the first post a bit better, MephilesTH. This is about divisions for a tournament, nowhere was a story mentioned.

I have no issues with it in fact I am complete agreement it should be based on whether or not the user uses powers or if they are a normal person and the level of the powers the person may have or if they use a weapon. This will make for a great way to separate them even more for a more even match in each grouping overall. It can be more like a lightweight, heavyweight, or megaton power user/ weapon user/ or normal person for more divisions and more potential options to work with as far as the number of potential participants.

Lightweights should be people that are fairly low powered that can't destroy whole worlds all by themselves (like DBZ characters can). They shouldn't be able to destroy a whole town or city either, by separating them into weapon users, power users, and no power user sub categories one can allow for more diversity overall

Heavy weights would be able to crush a town of city but not a whole planet or civilization in one shot. How they do it will better make for more potential character to participate in the contest.

Megaton guys would obviously be able to crush who planets and wipe out whole galaxies like Brolly can at full power. DBZ character would very likely be here in this group as one example.

Here is my input and I hope this contest coming up turns out better than the first one

quoted from a friend:
The easiest way to go about setting the division brackets up so that there aren't a grip of one-way matches is to compile a list of EVERYONE participating first off.
From there you start making a tier list: god tier (S+ rank), top tier (S rank), high tier and upper mid tier (A rank), mid tier (B and C rank), low tier (D rank), trash tier
After that you just determine which tiers belong in which division.

For example:
OMG Broken Division: god tier, top tier, and high tier

Middleweight Division: upper mid tier and mid tier

Lightweight Division: low tier and trash tier

After that you can start seeding participants in the brackets and whatnot to fine tune the overall balance.

The freeze frames keep him warm.
